Water for Life – A Community Transformed

đź’§ Water for Life: A Community Transformed in Kinniya

“Now our girls can go to school instead of spending hours fetching water.”

In the rural village of Kinniya, access to clean water wasn’t just a challenge—it was a daily crisis. Every morning, long before sunrise, women and young girls would walk over 4 kilometers to fetch water from a distant, unreliable well. It was the only available source, and even that was often contaminated.

This exhausting and dangerous routine came at a great cost. Children, especially girls, missed school, and mothers had no time to earn a living or care for their families. During the dry season, the situation worsened—the well dried up, and the entire village faced dehydration, illness, and severe food shortages.

đź’ˇ Our Response: A Permanent Water Storage Solution

When we first visited Kinniya, the community’s desperate need for safe, accessible water was immediately clear. Thanks to the generous support of our donors and dedicated local volunteers, our team launched the “Water for Life” project. In just three months, we:

  • âś… Conducted a full site assessment and soil test
  • âś… Installed a permanent underground water storage reservoir
  • âś… Integrated rainwater harvesting and local source connections
  • âś… Supplied filtration units to ensure clean, drinkable water

This water reservoir now serves over 70 households, providing safe water even during the driest months.

🌱 The Impact: Health, Education & Empowerment

Since the project’s completion, life in Kinniya has changed dramatically:

âś… School attendance among girls has increased by 65%
âś… Cases of waterborne diseases have sharply declined
âś… Women have more time for income-generating activities and caregiving
âś… Families have begun growing vegetables in kitchen gardens, improving nutrition

“We used to worry every day about water. Now, we worry about growing vegetables and sending our girls to school,” says Fareeda Bibi, a mother of three from Kinniya.

From Tent to Home – A New Beginning for the Rahman Family

“Now we have a roof over our heads—my children are safe. That means everything to us.” — Mrs. Rahman

For over seven years, the Rahman family lived in a fragile tent made of plastic sheets and scrap wood on the outskirts of the village. Every monsoon brought floods that washed away their belongings. Every night was a risk—exposure to cold, insects, and the constant fear of collapse.

Their children had no space to study, sleep peacefully, or feel safe. For Mrs. Rahman and her husband, every day was a struggle just to survive with dignity.

đź’ˇ Our Response: Building a Home, Restoring Dignity

When our team first met the Rahmans, we saw not just a family in need—but a family filled with strength, love, and untapped hope.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we were able to take swift action. Through our “Shelter for All” housing initiative, we:

  • Conducted a full needs assessment
  • Provided materials for a safe, weather-resistant structure
  • Engaged local labor to construct a two-room permanent home
  • Included basic sanitation facilities to ensure hygiene and dignity
  • Installed a solar light kit to provide electricity off-grid

The project was completed in just under 6 weeks, and for the first time in years, the Rahman family had a place to call home.

🌱 The Impact: Safety, Stability & a Fresh Start

Today, the Rahmans no longer fear the rains. Their children sleep soundly, study under proper lighting, and play safely outside their new home.

âś… The family now enjoys protection from weather and illness
âś… Their home includes a clean toilet and proper drainage
âś… School attendance of the children has improved
âś… Mrs. Rahman has started a small sewing business from home

“It’s more than bricks and walls—this house gave us hope, confidence, and a future,” says Mr. Rahman.

🤝 You Made This Possible

With your support, the Rahman family’s story changed forever. But hundreds of families like theirs still sleep under unsafe shelters—waiting for someone to care.
